Overview

The primary focus of this role is improving the productivity and efficiency of our chemical manufacturing processes through developments of existing and to be developed control systems. You will be accountable for developing and implementing carefully designed and engineered solutions to plant operations control for improved efficiency and uptime in operations. This is a cross-site role that will need to rapidly create relationships with company leaders, peers, and site leaders to lead improvement efforts with a sense of urgency. The Senior Control System Engineer owns and must deliver the further development and optimization of existing assets & operating practices, policies, and tools the plants utilize to achieve excellence in plant operations.

 

You will work extensively with reliability, maintenance, safety critical and production critical tasks, MOC and documentation processes to ensure LSB Industries business targets are met. For this key role it is also important to note that the incumbent will be required to frequently participate and generate risk assessment, prepare technical datasheets, reports, and technical specifications.

Responsibilities

 

Leadership:

 

· Work in close cooperation with Operating facilities to provide control system expertise throughout site operations.

· Ensure experience transfer from each of the operating sites are built into the plant engineering, fabrication and operation standards.

· Proactively manage process issue resolution and lead problem solving and root cause activities. Provide technical support to departments outside Operations.

· Coaching and mentoring site engineers

 

Controls & Process:

 

· Develop, roll out and maintain a process control program assuring high reliability of facility Process Automation and Safety Instrumented Systems.

· Act as a Technical Authority assuring asset integrity and compliance with relevant industry, regulatory and Company standards.

· Develop and maintain processes for monitoring facilities Process Control and Safety Systems.

· Perform routine identification of cost reduction and defect elimination opportunities.

· Manage lifecycle management process for facility Process Automation and Safety Instrumented Systems.

· Establish systems maintenance spare parts requirements. Support the procurement of these spare parts and set up spare parts management system.

· Develop, implement and train LSB employees on engineering standards, procedures, and practices.

· Develop and review new brownfield designs & installations in compliance with corporate standards and practices.

· Ensure high quality technical advice to operation and maintenance teams which deliver integrity and reliability outcomes.

· Develop Process Automation and Safety Instrumented Systems plant changes to achieve improved safety, reliability, and reduced maintenance cost.

· Conduct and support troubleshooting and investigation of failures utilizing root cause analysis techniques.

· Develop major turnaround work scopes and support their execution for Process Control and Safety Instrumented Systems.

· Ensure that Process Control and Safety Instrumented Systems documentation, calculations, software configurations and data are kept up to date.

· Support development and maintenance of cybersecurity of Process Control and Safety Instrumented Systems.

· Provide input to annual operating budget as well as assist in budget management by establishing reasons for deviation of expenditures and obtaining prior approval.

· Act as focal point for all systems vendors maintenance contracts.

 

Environmental Health and Safety:

 

· Promote and actively participate in "SCORE" Safety culture continuous improvement initiatives.

· Demonstrate a strong commitment to EHS initiatives by identifying opportunities that drive improvement in areas such as process safety, emissions and ESG targets.

· Leadership role in successful safety and environmental improvement efforts.

· Ensuring adequate hazard identification and risk management processes are in place.

Qualifications

· Minimum of at least 8 years of experience as a Senior Control Systems Engineer with site experience of an operating chemical manufacturer or similar.

 

Well-developed critical thinking skills with the ability to provide sound and timely technical advice to stakeholders.

 

· Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
