Overview

Allied Reliability is seeking experienced I&E Maintenance Mechanics for a long-term Contract opportunity with one of our premier clients in the New Orleans, LA area.  

 

The I&E Maintenance Mechanic will perform basic and mid-level I&E mechanical craft tasks while receiving formal training and mentoring within the I&E organization.
This position may require (as needed) that the I&E Mechanic coach and/or mentor employees in the entry-level or trainee level of the I&E craft.
The I&E Mechanic will have to be familiar with the safety requirements of the I&E crafts to be able to assist or lead in the installation, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, adjusting of electrical equipment, instrumentation and analytical equipment within a chemical plant environment.

 

Responsibilities

  • Must understand and apply all the Industrial Safety requirements for the Instrument and Electrical crafts in the assigned plants or shops.
  • Must use all common tools of the I/Electrical crafts and be able to use hand tools, power tools and electrical/electronic test equipment.
  • Must have solid understanding and knowledge of gaskets, packing, bolts, anchors, hoses, metallurgy, and field mounting techniques associated with electrical and instrumentation equipment.
  • Must have solid knowledge of electrical lighting, instrumentation, and electrical maintenance/installation principles both hands-on and theoretical knowledge.
  • I&E mechanic will be able to work on Instrumentation Calibration and configuration, Pneumatic Control Valves Actuators and Positioners, Performing Loop Checks, Troubleshooting and Commissioning a Loop, Process Control Loops and Tuning.
  • I&E mechanic will perform Grounding and Bonding applications, heat tracing and freeze protection.
  • I&E mechanic will understand and apply Motors Theory and its applications.
  • Must be capable of performing basic to mid level installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of electrical equipment, instrumentation and analytical equipment, including Motor Controls, Distribution Equipment and Transformer Applications.
  • Must apply and mentor others on the principles of Electrical Theory, Alternating Current, E/I Test Equipment, Flow Pressure Level and Temperature, Process Math, Hand Bending Tubing, Basics of Instrument Drawings and Documents and Conductors, Cables, Conductor Terminations and Splices.
  • Must Understand and mentor others on circuit breakers and fuses, detectors, Secondary Elements, Transducers, and Transmitters.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of equipment including, but is not limited to Pumps and Drives, Valves, Material Handling and Hand Rigging.
  • Must demonstrate I/E ability and experience to read, interpret, and implement electrical codes, manuals, procedures, schematic diagrams, P&ID's, blue prints and other specifications.
  • Must assist senior technicians or engineers on Programmable Logic Controllers, Distributed Control Systems, Stand by and Emergency Systems.
  • Work on the installation of power supply and signal wiring/cables, cable tray and conduit for newly installed machines, electrical equipment, instrumentation, distributive control systems, signal interface cabinets and telephone systems.
  • Replace under direction of senior technicians, faulty electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic components of machines, electrical equipment and instrumentation.
  • Must be able to order parts and material from store room for routine installation, repair and maintenance of electrical equipment and instrumentation.
  • Must routine/non routine housekeeping jobs to keep work area clean and safe.
  • Must be capable of coordinating training on electrical and instrumentation troubleshooting, repair and installation skills.
  • Will continue to acquire basic knowledge of processes involved in the production units.
  • Must sucessfully complete the Evonik Degussa Corporation progression system for the Instrument/Electrical courses as required components for promotion to Instrument/Electrical Technician.
  • May be required to participate in on/off site vendor or technical training. Learn basics of maintenance best practice principles in regards to planning, and performing maintenance accordingly.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge about tracking maintenance costs and other team KPl's, etc.
  • Must be able to interact in a productive manner in a team environment.

Other Principal Responsibilities:

 

I&E Mechanic must apply his or her knowledge and may coach more junior employees in the crafts like prospect or trainee I&E employees, on the following: 

    • Safe work practices and requirements including RC14000, consistent with job tasks.
    • Purchasing and Stores procedures/requirements. May initiate purchase order for parts and equipment.
    • Perform routine/non-routine housekeeping jobs to keep work area clean and safe.
    • Research parts requirements for equipment.
    • Analyze equipment failure.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED.
  • Technical Degree in a related field is preferred but not required.
  • 1-5 years of experience in an I&E Mechanic/Technician role.
  • Computer literacy primarily with Microsoft Office and SAP.
  • Knowledge of PLC troubleshooting and other electrical components.
  • Knowledge of electrical schematic diagrams, VFDs and motor controls, and basic mechanical principles.
  • All training to be on the job or facilitated by the site.
  • Requires data entry and processing skills and general math skills. 
  • Requires a current TWIC Card.
