Overview

Allied Reliability is seeking experienced Chemical Operators for a long-term Travel Contract Opportunity with one of our premier clients in the Westwego, LA area. 

The Process Operator performs duties required to monitor, control, and operate process equipment and plant processes.  Performs duties as instructed by Supervision.  These duties include sampling, field operation, minor maintenance, continuous improvement programs, process safety, personal safety, environmental compliance, and product quality.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, inspect, and check assigned area of responsibility to ensure proper equipment operation and product quality.
  • Identify and correct areas or equipment that need to be addressed for safety, cleanliness, process operability or quality.
  • Identify equipment and communicate processes that require maintenance to ensure proper operation and prevent unplanned downtime.
  • Participate regularly in all forms of plant continuous improvement programs.
  • Maintain work area in a clean and orderly manner, observe all company safety regulations and work rules.
  • Perform prescribed quality control sampling of raw materials, in-process materials and/or finished product.
  • Cross-train and/or be flexible to perform other Operator duties as needed.
  • Perform minor maintenance duties as directed by Supervision.
  • Ensures operational activities and process performance are aligned with plant and business goals.
  • Perform routine/nonroutine housekeeping tasks to keep work area clean and safe.
  • Demonstrate know-how to read, interpret, implement, and instruct others in the use of industry codes, manuals, procedures, schematic diagrams, P&IDs, blueprints, and other specifications.
  • Ability to interact with others (both peers and others) in a productive manner in a team environment.
  • Perform immediate response actions and manage unplanned events.
  • Apply and mentor advanced process and troubleshooting skills and knowledge and pass this knowledge on to trainees.
  • Use troubleshooting skills to resolve process-related deviations/problems and maintain equipment reliability.
  • Understand and apply all the Industrial Safety requirements in the assigned plants.
  • Initiate and participate in Root Cause Analyses as required.
  • Perform all duties with a high degree of dedication to safety and environmental stewardship.
  • Safely operate pumps, compressors, reactors, distillation columns and other plant equipment within safe operating ranges.
  • Make changes to the operating process necessary to maintain product quality.
  • Monitor the performance of plant equipment and process conditions. Read flow meters and temperature and pressure gauges.  Take routine readings on process variables.
  • Operate Control Room instrumentation systems.
  • Draw samples of products form the process for laboratory testing.
  • Perform lab testing on some process streams.
  • Promptly respond to process alarms/constraints.
  • Startup/shutdown process equipment.
  • Prepare equipment for Maintenance.
  • Participate on Emergency Response Team (Firefighting)
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience Requirements:
  • Must have previous Chemical plant, Refinery, or industrial experience.
  • OR, a 2-year associate degree in Process Technology WITH a minimum 2 years process operator experience in a petrochemical plant or refinery.
  • OR a Process Operator Basic Certification with minimum 2 years’ process operator experience in a petrochemical plant or refinery.
  • OR a high school diploma/GED with a minimum 5 years of process operator experience in a petrochemical plant or refinery.
  • OR a bachelor’s degree with a minimum 2 years of operations or maintenance experience in a petrochemical plant or refinery.
  • Required to work 12 hour rotating shift work schedule (including nights, weekends, holidays).
    • Operating needs of the unit dictate work schedule. Will be required to work overtime; standby coverage assigned on some off days.
  • Must possess basic computer skills.
  • Currently possess or able to obtain a TWIC Card.
  • Must be able to read and communicate verbally and written using the English language.
  • Must be able to complete the requirements of the formal operator's training program.
    • To become fully certified, candidate will be required to successfully complete the entire certification process.
  • Position requires ability to climb, bend, lift and perform a wide range of physical activities; ability to work at various heights; entry into confined spaces; work in various weather conditions; ability to listen and follow instructions.
  • Must be able to make process decisions involving troubleshooting and smooth operation of the plant, and hazard recognition.
