Overview

The position Reports to the Site Manager and will provide direct, hands-on leadership in the day to day operation of all manufacturing units, utilities, storage facilities, and shipping operations at the Pryor, Oklahoma plant. He/she is responsible for 6 direct reports and overall approximately 12 staff members and 60 hourly employees. The Operations Manager will lead, coach, and develop employees while establishing and fostering teamwork and a continuous improvement environment. As a member of the plant’s senior management team, the Operations Manager will participate in and lead cross functional efforts in the development and implementation of key strategies to achieve and sustain excellence in the plant’s safety, environmental, production, and budgetary performance. The Operations Manager will function as the main resource for all production related activities at the site; and must possess the ability to establish and meet high performance objectives for his/her team, as well as the entire organization. The selected candidate must be able to interact effectively across the entire organization from the hourly associates to the Company’s CEO.The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Responsibilities

  • Lead by setting direction and metrics for the Operations Department in meeting company safety, environmental, production, and budgetary standards.
  • Champion the plant’s safety and compliance efforts. Motivate employees to be active team participants in safety programs and processes, while working within the plant’s EHS policies and procedures 
  • Have, or possess the drive and ability to gain, expert knowledge of the technical information and specifics relevant to the products manufactured by the plant and the processes used to produce and distribute them.
  • Possess the leadership and analytical skills to proactively resolve technical issues and identify critical improvement needs 
  • Exhibit a creative and self-motivated approach to continuous improvement, process optimization, capital improvement management, and technology implementation. 
  • Translate and integrate company strategies into objectives and action plans to achieve operational excellence
  • Coordinate with the sales and marketing group to produce a mix of quality products that meets market demands.  
  • Responsible for annual budget development and management for the Operations Department.
  • Develop staff and operator knowledge, skills, and ability through challenging assignments. Inspire performance through mentoring, coaching and team building while establishing a culture of accountability. 
  • Manage the performance and professional development of supervisory personnel and ensure supervisors are effectively managing operating personnel.
  • Lead the improvement and management of all aspects of the plant’s operator progression process and training/qualification program.
  • Lead the revitalization of operating procedures and operating discipline across all units and develop and manage a sustainable process for their control, use, and improvement.
  • Possess, or quickly develop the ability to effectively act as Site Manager during the Site Manager’s absences.
  • Develop and communicate key performance indicators (KPI's), lead operating results and team performance to meet or exceed the KPI's

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in progressively more responsible positions in chemical, petrochemical, or refining process operations 
  • BS degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering preferred
  • Experience in the production of ammonia and/or nitrate products preferred
  • Demonstrated strong leadership and team building abilities 
  • Self-motivated leader that is proactive with a strong sense of urgency toward improvement 
  • Hands-on, field presence, engaged leader 
  • Skilled in supervising, evaluating, training and motivating employees
  • Results driven - - routinely uses goals, objectives, and metrics to achieve results 
  • Ability to change and improve site culture by developing and fostering trust and cooperation at all levels of an organization 
  • Possess the ability to quickly assess situations and take responsibility for directing a course of action
  • Experience in development and management of operating budgets
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
