Overview

The maintenance technician will be involved in one or more craft specialties; train and provide work direction and guidance while performing work in one or more of the skilled trades.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the plant.
  • Responsible for responding to all unplanned downtime or breakdowns on machines.
  • Plan and execute maintenance activities for non-routine problems or issues.
  • Carry out diverse skilled activities involving the repair and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
  • Fabricate, construct, and repair using materials such as metal and wood structures.
  • Assist management in scheduling work and determining needs for equipment and supplies.
  • Report to management regarding work completed and referring unusual technical or personnel issues to management.
  • Perform a variety of skilled work in the maintenance and repair of equipment; prioritize, schedule, assign and coordinate the work of assigned staff to accomplish a wide variety of duties related manufacturing.
  • Assure compliance with appropriate safety practices and procedures and with applicable federal, State and local codes, regulations and requirements.
  • Operate a variety of equipment and machines including saws, drills presses and various hand and power tools to perform repair and maintenance work.
  • Ensure that tools and equipment are maintained in a safe, clean, and proper working condition.
  • Estimate cost of labor and materials for work orders.
  • Perform skilled maintenance and repair on mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Perform a wide variety of complex skilled tasks to assist in the daily repair, preventative maintenance and construction of physical plant and expansion projects, including carpentry, masonry, electrical, heating/air-conditioning, plumbing, painting, mechanical and floor/wall coating installation.
  • May perform specialized electrical, plumbing inspection and maintenance tasks.
  • Examine machinery and equipment to diagnose trouble using basic mechanical tools and equipment.
  • Disassemble machines and equipment and adjust, replace or repair broken or defective parts and pieces.
  • Inspect completed mechanical repairs for quality, safety, and proper operation.
  • Perform equipment calibration and preventative maintenance procedures as directed.
  • Participate in snow removal and ice remediation activities such as shoveling, plowing and spreading de-icing agents on walkways and parking lots, where site weather conditions necessitate.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to interpret sketches, blueprints, shop drawings, and work orders.
  • 2 Years of post-secondary schooling in an industrial maintenance related field, Associates Degree Preferred or at least 4 years’ experience leading a team of skilled trade maintenance technicians.
  • 3 Years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment or 5-7 years in industrial maintenance as a multi-skill technician.
  • Experience troubleshooting motors, drives, electrical circuits, hydraulic systems, power transmission, and robotics.
  • Must have the ability to read and understand ladder logic, electrical, and mechanical diagrams.
  • PLC experience a plus.
