  • Overview

    The Mechanical Auditor must be capable of coordinating and leading on-site audits with minimal managerial oversight at IP sites globally.  Demonstrated prior success at managing compliance programs and/or audit programs is also a must.  The job requires at least 85% travel, including international travel. 


    • Maintain audit protocols for paper converting operations and pulp/paper mill operations.
    • Lead effective audits, which:
      • Identify weaknesses in facility procedures, programs, and management systems which may lead to unacceptable risk or noncompliance if not corrected;
      • Develop timely and accurate audit reports;
      • Promote the understanding of obligations and compliance assurance methods to facility staff in a clear and meaningful way;
      • Effectively communicate audit findings/information to facility staff and business management.
    • Review and analyze audit findings to identify potential trends.
    • Identify weaknesses and improvement opportunities in auditing methodologies and protocols to raise the certainty of identifying existing compliance problems.
    • Be proficient in aspects of pulp & paper manufacturing in order to participate in combined audits at manufacturing sites.
    • Effectively participate/lead cross-functional teams in development and implementation of global programs in response to complex issues.


    BS or MS in science or engineering

    10+  years in a manufacturing or technical field

    Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

    A strong knowledge of environmental regulations, permitting, and compliance management systems

    Strong understanding of safety regulations and management systems

    Familiarity with non-US environmental regulatory programs is a plus

    Demonstrated ability to lead professional teams

    A desire and ability to work globally (without restriction)

    Prior audit experience is highly desirable.
