This position is responsible for development and implementation of capital projects that are identified to support productivity plans and reliability improvement. These projects are designed to support on-going cost reduction, efficiency improvements, and safety and quality enhancement strategies in a continuous improvement environment.


Essential duties and responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned.


  • Use influential communication to solicit and quantify productivity ideation and capital availability according to plant’s annual MVP goal.
  • Develop and execute annual capital plan including monthly spend forecast.
  • Verify scope and potential ROI prior to detail engineering on projects.
  • Prepare CPA’s and manage project funding including requests for PO’s.
  • Develop Process Flow Designs, Piping & Instrument Diagrams, and general arrangement diagrams for initial costing and stakeholder agreement.
  • Ensure execution of project scope, schedule, cost, and cash flow projections, as agreed in CPA.
  • Focus on delivery of capital projects that support continuous improvement (material yields, equipment efficiency, labor reduction, energy consumption reduction, etc.), capacity increases (support growth and innovation), and supply chain network redesign (product sourcing policy changes).
  • Execute projects that enhance safety and promote regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate project finalization and capitalization with other departments.
  • Prepare specifications, reports and related data tables.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to other engineering disciplines.
  • Continually upgrading technical knowledge and capabilities. Assuring quality, quantity, and completeness of the engineering continuous professional development.
  • Complete special projects, duties and assignments, as appropriate. 


To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and interact with the many vendors and suppliers involved in these projects. The successful Project Engineer will manage bid walks, request for information, and scope of work development on all projects. Once the projects are scoped and approved, Project Engineer will ensure standards are met and funding is allocated according to the approved annual capital plan.   • Bachelor of Science in a Mechanical/Electrical Engineering discipline preferred.




  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in PLC coding and decoding, hands-on experience in various PLC platforms including Siemens and Rockwell automation.
  • 2-5 years of engineering project experience in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of manufacturing processes, coupled with a desire to move into engineering or manufacturing functions over time.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment to identify continuous improvement projects.
  • Experience working with capital budgets and forecasting.
  • Experience working with a diverse group of people.



  • Ability to read, understand, code and decode PLC systems including troubleshooting these systems on the manufacturing floor.
  • Strong proficiency/certification in engineering drawing interpretation and editing.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work in a matrix organization.
  • Strong analytical skills using tools such as statistics, downtime tracking, mechanical history, project planning, etc. to identify opportunity areas.
  • Ability to apply strong analytical concepts to make effective and timely decisions.
  • Proficient in MS PowerPoint, MS Project, MS Excel, MS Word, and Auto-CAD.
  • MVP focus with ability to identify, fund and schedule productivity.
  • Solid problem solving, project management, multi-tasking and prioritization skills.
  • Detail oriented, organized, reliable and resourceful.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
  • Available to travel up to 25% per plant and corporate requirements.
